Meadow Hall Tours 2018 State Fair of Virginia
Enjoy a special opportunity to tour Meadow Hall during the 2018 State Fair of Virginia. Not normally open to the public, this stately mansion with its mahogany paneling and marble floors is a much in demand venue for weddings, parties, or corporate functions. Its elegant décor and gracious charm are complemented by the aura of history that permeates this storied land. Meadow Hall sits atop the site of the ancestral homeplace of Christopher Chenery, who founded Meadow Stable in 1936. So step back in time to its glory days as your narrator walks you through the Meadow Champion Galleries and the Triple Crown Room. Learn how this fabled Virginia farm produced an American legend, Triple Crown champion Secretariat, and how his fiery bloodlines live on in Thoroughbred racing today. NEW THIS YEAR and exclusive to Meadow Hall is the “Tribute to Penny Chenery” exhibit devoted to the late, beloved “Mistress of The Meadow” herself. Courtesy of her family, this is the first public display of Penny’s riding attire, her riding boots and even the outfit she wore serving in the Red Cross in 1946. Complementing this collection are additional family items and rare Meadow Stable memorabilia, along with a stunning bronze sculpture of Secretariat. After your tour, be sure to visit the Secretariat tourism booth by the paddock to learn more about the Secretariat Birthplace tours and events and to purchase authentic merchandise. You can also stroll around the original Meadow Stable barns, which are listed on the state and national historic registers. Proceeds from the mansion tours will benefit the Historic Barn Fund to renovate these important structures. State Fair of Virginia admission is required and must be purchased separately in order to take a tour. Visit www.statefairva.org for more info and to purchase Fair tickets.
